Compare Towing, Tech, and Value for Chicago Area Drivers

Choosing the right midsize truck often comes down to what you actually need it to do. For drivers around Homewood and Chicago Heights, the debate frequently centers on two heavy hitters: the 2026 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2026 Jeep Gladiator.

Both are rugged, extremely capable, and ready for the weekend. But when you break down their engine performance, standard technology, and the daily driving experience, the differences become obvious. Here is a look at how these two pickups stack up when put to the test.

Performance and Towing: The Torque Advantage

If you are buying a midsize truck to haul equipment to a job site or tow a boat to the lake, horsepower matters—but torque is what actually gets the load moving.

Every 2026 Chevrolet Colorado comes standard with a heavy-duty 2.7L TurboMax™ engine. This powerhouse delivers 310 horsepower and a massive 430 lb-ft of torque. The 2026 Jeep Gladiator relies on an older 3.6L Pentastar V6, which falls noticeably short in off-the-line pulling power.

While both trucks technically max out at a 7,700-pound towing capacity when fully equipped, the Colorado achieves that number much more comfortably thanks to its massive torque advantage. That extra muscle means the Colorado won't struggle or constantly hunt for gears when hauling heavy loads down I-80.

Technology and the Cabin Experience

Midsize trucks are no longer just bare-bones work vehicles. Both automakers have stepped up their digital game for 2026, but Chevrolet provides a more cohesive, dual-screen command center.

• The Colorado's Digital Command: Chevrolet completely modernized the Colorado's interior. Every trim features a stunning 11.3-inch diagonal center touchscreen paired with an 11-inch digital Driver Information Center. The system includes Google built-in, meaning Google Maps and Google Assistant are natively integrated. Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are completely standard.
• The Gladiator's Setup: Jeep recently updated the Gladiator to feature a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen. While it is slightly wider than the Chevy's center screen, the Gladiator's upright, blocky dashboard and heavy reliance on physical switches make the cabin feel less streamlined than the Colorado's high-tech cockpit.

Final Thoughts

The 2026 Jeep Gladiator offers unique open-air novelty with its removable doors and roof, but as a daily driver and dedicated work truck, the 2026 Chevrolet Colorado is the clear winner. The Colorado provides a massive 170 lb-ft torque advantage, a superior digital dashboard, and a much more refined ride on paved roads.
