The 2017 Ford Expedition XLT delivers notable value by packing a wealth of standard features at its price point, outpacing many similarly-priced SUVs in equipment and versatility. Key features such as 4WD, three-row seating, SYNC 3 infotainment, and a power liftgate are all included without requiring costly upgrades.
Analytical buyers who methodically compare feature lists and prioritize getting the most for their money will appreciate the Expeditionâs comprehensive standard equipment. With its split-bench third row, rear air conditioning, SiriusXM radio, and advanced communications technology, this SUV is built for families and groups needing both comfort and connectivity on the go. In climates like the Midwest, its 4WD and heated mirrors provide enhanced confidence during unpredictable weather, making it a strong fit for both urban and suburban lifestyles.
From a powertrain perspective, the SUV offers a compelling performance-to-value ratio. The EcoBoost 3.5L V6 GTDi DOHC 24V Twin Turbocharged engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission delivers robust acceleration and ample power for highway merging and towing duties, while the standard 4WD system ensures traction across various surfaces. With EPA ratings of 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, it balances performance with reasonable fuel efficiency for a full-size SUV, helping manage operating costs without sacrificing capability.
Safety value is a standout, as this model comes with a full slate of standard active and passive features. Anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, and brake assist are all included, providing peace of mind on slick or uneven roads. The 911 Assist emergency communication system, exterior parking camera, and multiple airbags (including dual front, side, and overhead) come standard, offering protection and convenience that often cost extra on rival models. Adjustable pedals further enhance driver safety and comfort.
Standard features extend beyond the basics, enhancing everyday utility and comfort. Automatic temperature control, leather steering wheel, remote keyless entry, rear audio controls, and fully automatic headlights are all included as standard equipment. The SYNC 3 Communications & Entertainment System integrates seamlessly with steering wheel audio controls, while split folding rear seats and a power liftgate simplify cargo handling. All of these features contribute to a more convenient and enjoyable ownership experience, without the need to purchase additional packages.
When compared to competitors such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Toyota Sequoia, the Expedition XLT shines in its standard feature-to-price ratio. While some competitors require buyers to upgrade trims or add costly packages for essentials like three-row seating or advanced infotainment, this SUV includes these as standard. Additionally, the Expeditionâs combination of technology and rugged capability makes it a high-value choice for families seeking a versatile and reliable full-size SUV.
Whatâs included as standard equipment? The Expedition XLT provides 4WD, SYNC 3, rear air conditioning, a power liftgate, and parking camera as standard. Is this vehicle worth the price? Given its extensive feature list and durable powertrain, it stands out as a high-value purchase. Which trim offers the best value? XLT trim hits the sweet spot between amenities and price.

Exceptional Ford Vehicle
By Midwest Ford Owner | on 6/11/2026 3:16:14 PM
“Built Ford Tough” definitely applies to this vehicle. It shares the same body-on-frame chassis as the F-150. I have traveled all over the Midwest with this vehicle and have had no substantial issues. Safe vehicle for kids, good trunk space with third row down, and decent interior materials. As with any vehicle, routine maintenance is key. I plan to continue driving this vehicle for years to come!… - 4.0
Powerful and reliable but…
By Mom of 4 Awesome kids | on 8/23/2025 10:49:50 AM
We love our Expedition! It’s a great tow vehicle, has the heavy duty tow package installed, so we haul our 36 foot trailer without issues (needs anti-sway bars of course). It’s reliable and has all the bells and whistles like cooling our rear ends. Here’s the problem: the AC system really sucks. We have spent thousands of dollars to repair and replace stuff and to this day it is not working. We live in Florida so that is literally not cool!!! What the heck Ford??? Also this vehicle was priced at $61k when it was new, now it’s worth about $6000, 10 years later. That speaks volumes. Hopefully newer models will improve this glaring oversight.… - 5.0
